Passwords / Account

There are many IT systems at the university where you have to log in (authenticate) with a user ID and a password. Usually you use the same user ID for all systems, but often with different passwords. The fact that you have to use different passwords is partly intentional to increase security and partly due to technical requirements.

User ID / Username

The user ID consists of:

the first letter of the first name + the first five letters of the last name + number of the department (here 2) + status (e.g. s for student or m for employee)

Example: The student of FB02 Max Mustermann would have the user ID mmuste2s.

For frequently occurring combinations, the last digits of the last name are padded with digits to five digits or overwritten with a consecutive number.

Example: mmus412s

Passwords

Default / Unix password

The default password is used for logging in

Windows password

The password first corresponds to the default password and must be changed separately.

The Windows password of the INF-POOL domain is used

  • for logging in Windows in the pool rooms
  • for using the Windows shares on the "filesrv" file server and the "printsrv" print server.

Eduroam / Wifi password

The WiFi password is used to access the Wireless LAN via SSIDs "H-BRS" and "Eduroam".

Passwords of other departments or faculties

Additionally, there are other passwords which are used outside the department:

Employees in the department also have a password:

  • for Windows in the office network
  • for DIAS
  • on the Fileserver and M1 of the administration
