The mail system is based on IMAP and SMTP. The retrieval is optionally encrypted with STARTTLS or SSL/TLS protocol and always secured with authentication. You can use any mail client that supports these protocols, for example: Thunderbird, MS Outlook, Apple Mail, K9Mail, etc.
By default, "STARTTLS" should be used. There is no difference in security to SSL/TLS.
In addition, a web interface, accessible at horde.inf.h-brs.de, is provided which allows access and mail-account administration in desktop and mobile browsers.
Messages that pass through the mail system are checked for spam and viruses. Also, certain mail recipients are protected from unauthorized senders.
